A preventive maintenance program (or preventative maintenance program, if you prefer) is a systematic process for caring for equipment and processes on a scheduled basis, identifying any problems early on and nipping them in the bud before they become major breakdowns. For example, checking the pressure in your tires and topping off engine oil are preventive maintenance steps for your car.
