What is Bonnet's Syndrome and who was Charles Bonnet?

Charles Bonnet lent his name to Bonnet's Syndrome, a disease that produces hallucinations in otherwise healthy people.  Bonnet was an interesting character.  A French naturalist and philosopher in the 18th century, Bonnet studies plants (demonstrating oxygen production during photosynthesis), insects (discovering parthenogensis -- virgin birth! -- in aphids), and working in a variety of other areas biological, medical and spiritual.
